Meet Raj Somal — one of the most well-rounded dog training professionals in the field today. With a background that spans competitive dog sports, government agency partnerships, and hands-on study with world-renowned trainers, Raj brings a rare depth of expertise to every dog and handler he works with.

Before founding Ignition Canine, Raj served as a Police Officer, working within Corrective Services, and across other government agencies — applying his dog training skills in real operational environments where precision and reliability aren’t optional, they’re essential.

Whether you’re navigating the early weeks with a new puppy, looking to strengthen the bond with your family pet, or preparing a service dog for the demands of real-world work, Raj’s approach is rooted in clarity, confidence, and a genuine understanding of how dogs think and learn.

From the beginning, Raj has been honest, transparent and incredibly responsive. There’s no sales pitch, no pressure and no telling you what you want to hear. He’s straightforward about what is achievable, what is required and what is best for the dog and owner. That honesty has made it very easy for me to trust him completely.

What I particularly appreciate is that Raj doesn’t just train a dog and hand you the lead. His approach is genuinely all-inclusive — he is training Athena, but he is also teaching me how to handle her, understand her and get the absolute best out of our partnership. He has taken the time to really listen to what I need from her, understand my circumstances and the life and role I am preparing her for, and tailor her training accordingly.

I sent my cane corso girl lola to board and train to Raj at ignition canine dog training, she had a bad start, no socialisation she was a very scared dog being 6 months she wasn't being a puppy and was hard for me to do anything so I took her to Raj and chose to leave her in his hands as she really needs alot of help, she has been with him 2 weeks now and so much approvement she not the frightened dog anymore, she has come along way and still has a bit to go, she staying for at least a couple more weeks, she has pack runs with his dogs to bring out the puppy she has hidden. I'm happy with what Raj has done with lola being the happy dog she born to be. I've been once a week to do training with her and see how she is and she is just so happy a changed dog. I had an out of control Dutch Shepherd and I was extremely lucky that I found Ignition Dog Training and also very lucky that Raj the trainer saw that I was in serious trouble with control over my dog. He was able to fit him in to the On Board Training and within less than a week he has calmed my dog down and has him responding to commands and learning what is expected from him. This Guy is Australia’s answer to the Dog Whisperer I’m seriously impressed with what he has already been able to achieve with our dog. My dog is a large 1year old puppy; highly reactive and showed me no respect.  Walks were an absolute nightmare because everything triggered him. If he saw another dog or a kangaroo, he would immediately pull, chase them, and I had no hope of holding him back. It was stressful, I lost hope and wasted lots of money.

A friend recommended Raj from Ignition Canine.  He came with an excellent reputation, proved to me that he is a true professional and it’s obvious he loves what he does.  Raj explained his whole training process with white board illustrations, analogies, and gave clear and logical explanations of what needed to be done by me for my dog to respond.
He demonstrated a deep understanding of dog psychology and tailored an approach that actually works.  He didn't just train my dog; he taught me how to read my dog's triggers, interpret his behaviour and communicate effectively.

I had a 2hr training session today and it has done wonders already
My dog is very reactive towards other dogs constantly pulling on the leash and not listening to a word I say.
Within this training session Raj was amazing explaining everything he was doing and making sure I understood everything. Raj also got my dog raven to go into a place position and stay while he had another dog out. Yes she still reacted but in saying that she still stayed where she was placed. Everything is not going to be fixed in one day and there is a lot of things that i as a dog owner need to learn and change as well. Raj has also already help me with some things and will continue to help myself and my dog.
